Ground Beef Burger with Avocado

  • For the Burger Patties:
    • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
    • 1 small onion, finely chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
    • 1 egg (optional, for binding)
  • For the Burger Assembly:
    • 4 burger buns
    • 4 leaves of lettuce
    • 1 ripe avocado, sliced
    • 1/2 cucumber, thinly sliced
    • 1 cup alfalfa sprouts
    • 4 slices of cheese (optional, your choice)
    • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
    • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
    • 1 tablespoon ketchup
    • Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Prepare the Patties:
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. If the mixture seems too loose, you can add the egg for better binding.
  • Mix gently until all ingredients are well incorporated. Be careful not to overwork the meat to avoid tough patties.
  • Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Use your thumb to make a small indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.
  1. Cook the Patties:
  • Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a little oil to prevent sticking.
  • Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium, or adjust the cooking time to your preferred doneness. If using cheese, add a slice on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover to melt.
  1. Prepare the Buns:
  • While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.
  1. Assemble the Burgers:
  • In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and ketchup. Spread this sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun.
  • Place a leaf of lettuce on each bun bottom, followed by the cooked beef patty.
  • Layer the sliced avocado and cucumber on top of the patty.
  • Add a generous handful of alfalfa sprouts.
  • Place the top half of the bun over the sprouts.
  1. Serve:
  • Serve the burgers immediately with your favorite sides. Enjoy!
